Our team
Jalyn Spencer is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with a background in the sciences and Chinese medicine. Before becoming a lactation consultant, Jalyn received a Master’s degree in acupuncture, specializing in women’s wellness. She also holds bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from Spelman College and Georgia Tech, respectively. Born and raised in Detroit, Jalyn returned to her hometown in 2009 after living on the East coast for 10 years.
Mama Hub was born out of Jalyn's sense of isolation while she was pregnant with her second child. She couldn't find a community of like-minded mothers, so she decided to start her own.
Jalyn has a particular passion for guiding mothers in building confidence in their body's wisdom. She enjoys supporting parents one-on-one through her private lactation practice Milk Moxy and treats every mom with a sense of compassion and non-judgment.
Mercedes Price (@YourBirthYourBody) is a full spectrum doula, pregnancy researcher, native Detroiter, wife, and mother of two toddlers (pray for her!). Her background is in preterm birth research and project management. After almost 10 years in research, she recognized the need to intervene because the research world moves too slow. She became a doula to serve birthing families directly, through continuous support and evidence-based education. She values quiet time, supporting pregnant people, baking, and shopping.

We are looking to build a larger team of board members who have a passion for moms and families and consider themselves to have skills in leadership, strategic planning, financial oversight, fundraising, and networking.
